Biography |
| When her debut album, What's the 411?, hit the
street in 1992, critics and fans alike were
floored by its powerful combination of modern R&B
with an edgy rap sound that glanced off of the
pain and grit of Mary J. Blige's Yonkers, NY
childhood. Called alternately the new Chaka Khan
or new Aretha Franklin, Blige had little in common
stylistically with either of those artists, but
like them helped adorn soul music with new
textures and flavors that inspired a whole
generation of musicians.

Biography |
Jive released Celebrity,
*NSYNC's third album, in 2001, and after that,
Timberlake started recording as a solo artist. The
singer had performed live as a solo artist before *NSYNC,
but it wasn't until the early 2000s that he actually
recorded an album as a solo act. Justified,
Timberlake's first solo album, was released on Jive
in November 2002. "Like I Love You," the album's
first single, became a major hit and was followed by
a second single, "Cry Me a River" (not to be
confused with the melancholy Arthur Hamilton
standard that was a hit for the late jazz
singer/actress Julie London in 1955).

Biography |
Akon,
whose real name is Aliaune Akon Thiam,
is a Senegalese. His father was famous
percussionist and jazz musician Mor Thiam
who specialized on playing Djembe, and
authentic African drum. His band and he came
to the US from Africa to perform in
different clubs.
Trouble - that was the title of the
Akon’s first album.
It includes songs which are different
from the point of view of the style of the
music and singing manner. Still, having
heard all 13 songs from the album, it is
safe to say Akon is not a "pure" rapper.
Among hip-hop songs, one can easily feel the
influence of both reggae and R&B, mingled
with the way of singing peculiar only to
this great Senegalese American.
